We welcome Powell Elementary students to their new learning garden!

With help from many wonderful people like Meco Nathan and Tammy Chan with the City of Grand Prairie and Ron Davis with Grand Prairie ISD, along with funding from Chesapeake Energy Corporation, the garden was renovated on September 5! We also received great ideas and support from 4th grade teacher / garden coordinator Suzan Crouch and Principal Thelma Jones from Powell Elementary.

A visit to the garden will reveal many fun learning features such as:

- 8 vegetable beds with a vertical trellis that children can walk under

- an herb bed

- a flower-shaped butterfly garden where children can learn about butterfly life cycles and how to grow many type of perennials

- an earth science station where children can study erosion, soil composition and rock types

- a sun dial with a cute bird house

- two compost bins to study decomposition

- a great classroom area to sit under the trees on nice round picnic tables

- a cute split rail cedar fence with entry arbors on two sides
