Political Productivity

With August 2nd looming, and political banter being bounced around, some of us are wondering who gets the credit for being the most productive in Washington?

The White House Garden.

White House Spring Garden

This photo of the White House garden was taken by Terri Taylor of Edible DFW when she visited D.C. this past spring.

In the three years since her husband took office, First Lady Michelle Obama has focused a broad spotlight on the importance of healthy eating and active lifestyles through the first White House garden to be planted since the days of Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden during World War II.

The video below tells the story of how Michelle Obama teamed up with the White House chef Sam Kass to establish a vegetable garden in her family’s new home back in early 2009.

Below is a video of their 2011 spring planting.  In this video, she mentions her Let’s Move! Initiative, which is described as “America’s Move to Raise a Healthier Generation of Kids.”

Below is a video of the First Lady describing more about the program.

A special partnership between REAL School Gardens, McNair Elementary in Dallas, and the NFL Live! in the Community program was featured on the Let’s Move website in June.

Whatever transpires with our debt ceiling next week, I'm happy to know that something’s growing on in Washington.
